What is a cognitive distortion? #6

Hey everyone,

In today’s post on cognitive distortions, I’d like to cover the next one which is emotional reasoning.

This is where a person strongly believes that whatever they feel is automatically true without the need to question it because they feel it so strongly → feelings are facts:

“I feel like everything is hopeless, so it must be…”

“If I feel this way, it must be right!”

Thus, ‘counter’ it by pausing to take deep breaths; and allow for the feelings to arise, feel it in your body and let it pass; consider that feelings might be a misrepresentation of facts.
