I’m afraid of losing my mom

Hi everyone I’m a single parent child my mom bought me up and my dad passed on when I was little but now I’m so worried about her she currently has CAD Status - ACS STEMI and I’m not working at all need to watch her at home no people I really need help

Hi @tendershiba850 thank you for sharing.

I’m really sorry to hear about your mum’s situation. It is truly a frightening situation to be in, especially since the two of you have been relying on each other for a long time, losing one of you would create a huge absence. It is also not easy caring for your mum on your own, with no income and no one else to lean on. You’re clearly doing everything you can for her, and that matters a lot.

I understand that you are looking for support, so I have provided some avenues for you to reach out to below:

For your mum’s medical care costs, you can approach the Medical Social Worker (MSW) at the hospital where she is being treated. They are specifically there to help families in situations like yours. They can assess your financial situation and help you apply for subsidies, MediFund, and other assistance schemes to reduce the medical bills.

For your own financial situation, since you’re not working in order to care for her, you may want to look into:

ComCare- this is a scheme by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) that provides financial assistance for daily living expenses. You can apply at any Social Service Office (SSO), or call the ComCare hotline at 1800-222-0000.

Caregiving support- the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) has resources and support for family caregivers. You can reach them at 1800-650-6060 or find out more via this website: Caregiving Support | AIC

You are not alone in this and don’t have to go through this alone!

Hi @tendershiba850,

Losing your dad at a young age, and now seeing your mum go through a serious heart condition while you’re trying to care for her, must be intensely worrying.

I’m wondering what kind of support you and your mum need the most at this point. Is it practical support with caregiving, financial concerns, emotional support, or perhaps something else?

If you’re comfortable sharing a little more about your mum’s current situation. For example, how she’s coping day to day (emotionally, functionally) or what has been most challenging for both of you. I’d be happy to think through it together with you.

You’re not alone in this. We’re here to listen.

More importantly, I also wanted to check in on you. Sometimes, the people who are caring for a loved one can become so focused on the person they’re looking after that their own wellbeing gets overlooked.

How have you been coping with everything? Is there any support you feel you need for yourself as well?

If you’re able to, I hope you’ll also remember to be kind to yourself and take moments to rest whenever possible. Caring for someone you love can be incredibly meaningful, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding…

Hi thank you so much I appreciate I really needed caregiving, financial concerns, emotional support, but I’m alone mostly myself when things happen and I was also drop off of school since at a very young age

Oh Thank you when my mom was at icu they approach me Medical Social Worker (MSW) at the hospital but I’m not sure will they tell caregivers and ComCare about this

Hey @tendershiba850,

Thank you for your prompt response. From what you’ve shared, it sounds like you’re juggling caregiving, financial concerns, and your own wellbeing all at once. That’s a lot for anyone to manage.

As your situation may involve a few different areas, I’m wondering if you might find it helpful to consider a few avenues of support:

1. Hospital MSW

If your mum is still attending hospital appointments, do consider reconnecting with the hospital MSW.

They can explore assistance for medical bills (where eligible), caregiver support, and community care options.

If you’re finding it difficult to cope after your mum’s discharge, you could also ask MSW whether a referral to Community Case Management Service (CCMS) would be suitable. They provide longer-term case management and can help coordinate community resources while you and your mum are back out in the community.

2. SAMH Insight Centre / Brahm Centre / Family Service Centre

If you feel you would benefit from emotional support or counselling, these agencies can provide counselling and case management support for an affordable fee (some are free / donation-basis).

3. Social Service Office (SSO)

If household finances are a concern, SSO can assess your family’s circumstances and advise on financial assistance schemes that may be available.

4. Community organisations

Depending on where you stay, your Community Centre or religious organisations (e.g. temple, mosque, church) may also have assistance schemes such as food support, vouchers, or other forms of community help.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I’m glad to know that a medical social worker has already approached you! Hopefully, they are able to help relieve some of the financial burden off your shoulders.

As to whether they have informed AIC or ComCare, you may wish to double-check with them the next time you see them, or reach out to AIC or ComCare directly for support if you find that helpful!

Thank you this means alot

Thank you very much for your help :folded_hands:t3:
