I’m not sure what’s going on with me

I’ve been feeling empty inside, even though i’m happy and still act normal in school.

I’ve also been having sudden bursts of crying for no reason

I feel like I exaggerate the joy I feel, in front of both friends and family

Maybe it’s because im in a year where I have to take an important national exam that im feeling this way.

I just feel to tired and trapped

hii, im really sorry youre feeling this way. feeling empty while still acting normal is way more common than it seems, and it can be really tiring to keep up a totally different outside version of yourself every day.

the sudden crying spells can happen when stress has been building up for a long time, which makes sense in an exam year

also, having to exaggerate joy around other people can feel like you are performing, which is super tiring. after a while it could make the emptiness feel even worse, because it feels like no one is seeing the real you.

no matter how you feel, do keep in mind that you are enough, even if you dont feel the best right now

Dear @carefulwillow437

Thank you for writing in to share what has been going on in your life.

From your sharing, I believe the empty feeling, suddenly crying, and acting normal on the outside while feeling exhausted inside are indicators that you are feeling overwhelmed. I gather the overwhelm has been going on for a long time . I have further observed that intense exam preparation can add on more strain.

Do consider speaking to your school counsellor soon. They can help you learn how to cope, manage expectations and incorporate self care activities that allow you to manage better. The counsellor can also coach you on communication skills to help you convey what you are experiencing more accurately to help others understand you better.

Are there teachers you can approach to help you in the school subjects and topics that are contributing to the stress?
