I need advice tw:selfharm.

My life is going perfectly find but i started to self harm. I feel no guilt from doing it just the fear of being found out. It feels weird to self harm without a reason and i feel like i am just doing it for attention. Am i?

i think that we do everything with a reason. can u try to find the root of why u want to self harm? bored and cutting to feel something can also be a reason. Find something u like to do instead? i tried to rewire my brain to go for a tiring run whenever i want to self harm. the brain is neuroplasticity, so it will eventually rewire to going for a run instead of sh after a while

Hi user1460

Thank you for your courage in sharing about your self harming behaviour that has suddenly commenced with no obvious reasons why. Please know you are not alone. From what I know, self-harm is a complex behavior that can arise from various emotional struggles, and is a form of a coping mechanism. Your feelings of guilt are also valid and understandable. We self-harm for numerous reasons, which can vary widely, such as for:

a)Emotional Regulation: It may serve as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions or feelings of numbness. Some folks find temporary relief from emotional pain through physical pain.

b)Control and Expression: Self-harm can provide a sense of control over one’s body or emotions, especially when other aspects of life feel uncontrollable.

c)Communication of Distress: It might be a means to express feelings that are difficult to articulate, serving as an outward sign of inner turmoil.

I believe many who self-harm also share similar concerns to the ones you expressed - is it a form of seeking attention? I hope it helps when I share that self harming is not always about seeking attention. It may be a way of managing internal pain or distress.

I encourage you to reach out for support and suggest you:

a)Talk to Someone You Trust: Sharing your feelings with a friend or family member can alleviate some of the isolation and shame associated with self-harming behaviours.

b)Seek Professional Support: Consider seeking help from mental health professionals who can provide therapy tailored to your needs.

Self-harm is a serious behavior often linked to emotional distress. Even if your life appears perfect on the surface, internal struggles can lead to harmful coping mechanisms. It’s vital to understand that help is available and that reaching out for support can significantly improve your well-being.
