hello I’m in my final year of school and life is tough
I’m.doing the IB so I have 6 subjects, many tests and lots of coursework
I also however struggle with focusing on work and get distracted easily / unbothered to work and delay stuff and then get stressed cuz I have so much work
I’m also EXHAUSTED and feel overwhelmed and tired every night so much so it feels hard to keep my room clean and shower etc idk
Thank you for taking your time to write in to Let’s talk!
It must have been really tough for you especially when you are in your final year of IB. And it is one of the more stressful thing anyone can go through, so what you are feelig now makes a lot of sense.
I noticed that you have been experiencing exhaution and struggling with basic self care like showering and tidying up your room. That is something you may need to pay attention to as it can be a sign that your body and mind is going through a lot. Sleep and rest are actually what makes the studying possible. If you sacrifice sleep to get work done, it may cause more harm than good.
One thing that might help focusing and procrastinating is working in short time burst. So it generally works by focusing for 25 minutes on work, and having a 5 minutes break after that. It helps you to start your work more easily which is normally the hardest part most people would encounter. The goal here is to ensure the task feel easier to begin with.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, you can try to write it down. So it externalising it on a paper can reduce a lot of stress in your head.
Lastly, I would like to add on that if the exhaustion, difficulty of daily task, feeling overwhelmed and struggling to motivate has been affecting your quality of life, I would suggest speaking to someone about it, such as a teacher or school counsellor so you have someone to support you through this journey.
