Honestly recently ive been thinking about how i feel like everything around me isnt real anymore. As in i myself dont feel loke a real person i feel like everything around ke is hapoening as if its happened before and whay im going through rn is like a flashback or idk i just feel like everything isnt real anymorr idk how to explain it.
hey… thanks for being brave enough to write this. the way you described things — like it’s all a flashback or you’re not really in your body — it honestly sounds really overwhelming and confusing.
what you’re going through isn’t weird or fake, even if it feels unreal. sometimes our brain tries to protect us when we’re super stressed or overloaded, and it does that by making everything feel distant or disconnected — like we’re not really here. it’s something called dissociation, and it can happen to people going through a lot.
you’re not alone in this — it’s more like your body and mind asking for help in their own way.
it might help to do small grounding things — like touching something cold, naming what you see around you, or reminding yourself of today’s date. if this keeps happening or gets worse, talking to someone (a school counsellor or therapist maybe?) could really help you feel more like you again.
but for now… just know that what you’re feeling is valid. and it’s okay to need help making sense of it all. we’re here with you.
hi @user6989,
Thank you for sharing. Have you identified any triggers that made you feel what you described? If you have not, i would encourage you to try and find out what is making you feel that way. You can then work towards a solution, or a strategy to deal with what’s to come
Hello @user6989. That sounds like such a confusing and isolating experience. I’m glad you reached out about it. The fact that you’re aware of what you’re feeling and is able to put words into it even if it’s messy, is already powerful.
Reading your post reminded me of a phase I went through too where everything felt like a blur or like I was outside of my own body watching life happen. At first, I thought something was really wrong with me. But I learnt that sometimes it’s the mind’s way of saying, “Hey, I’m overwhelmed. I need space. I need support.” And slowly, grounding myself in small daily things that helps me reconnect with myself and the things around me. What really helped me was doing the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique.
- Name 5 things you can see.
- Name 4 things you can touch.
- Name 3 things you can hear.
- Name 2 things you can smell.
- Name 1 thing you can taste.
It didn’t magically solve everything overnight, but it reminded me that I am still here. Still present.
And just so you know, you don’t need to have the “perfect” words to explain it. What you’re feeling is completely valid, even if it’s hard to name.
What do you thinking might be contributing to this feeling lately? Stress? Lack of sleep? Emotional overload? Or… life being a lot?
You don’t have to figure it all out today. But you don’t have to go through this alone either. We’re here for you
