Is Your Community Helping Or Hurting Your Mental Health? 🤷

One beautiful and unique aspect of Singapore is how diverse our communities are, with our different cultures, jobs, lifestyles and even lived experiences. :house_with_garden: :busts_in_silhouette:

But let’s be real… sometimes the very people or places we spend most of our time in can either be a source of support or, sometimes, stress. :dotted_line_face:

Maybe it is the pressure to succeed in your current project or the emotional struggles with your peers. Since mental health is shaped by our everyday experiences, the struggles we face can look very different depending on what community we place ourselves in. :people_hugging:

So let’s get curious and compassionate :glowing_star:

Is your community helping your mental health, or hurting it?

:thought_balloon: Share your thoughts and experiences here! We would love to learn from your perspective and let’s talk. :blue_heart:

It is helping my mental health.

They provide me a safe space… And do not judge me for my vulnerability

Maybe by acknowledging mental health, it is knowing that it is a problem?

Community is helping to promote mental wellness for elders & youths

Its helping me by being supportive

Hmmmm… It depends on the environment and the people I’m with. Sometimes it’s helping but other time it can be triggering.

I don’t think they mean any harm but more of the way the communicate that can be triggering

Usually a mix of both!

If i’m not diagnosed with a MH condition, how do I assess my mental health and the impact that my community is having on me? What is ‘toxic’ to me may not be toxic to others. Some people may say it’s due to my poor tolerance or coping skills, not the community itself. I would like to hear more about what you think a ‘toxic’ community looks like and how you feel if you are in one. Thanks!

I would say it’s a fine balance of both

It’s always assuring to know we have someone dependable around us.

I feel safe in this community

Yes, safe relationship takes time to build and it’s worrhwhile

My community is helping my mental health. I can talk to my friends and they support me when I am stressed
