Missing a loved one.

I know this may sound stupid but like I still miss my online friend who I havent seen 1 year. honestly I still haven’t gotten over him and I miss him the most till this very day. he appeared in my dreams last night which only made me sadder, I really really miss him. he was the only one at my lowest. I would do anything to see him again. idk if I shld start grieving this :cyclone:

Hi @estestest , to be honest this doesn’t sound stupid at all. Missing someone who was genuinely there for you at your lowest is completely valid regardless of whether the friendship was online or in-person. The connection and support are real.
It makes sense that a dream about him brought these emotions back up. Dreams have a way of reminding us of feelings we have been quietly carrying

To better understand, could I clarify, when you mentioned you have not seen him for 1 year, are you referring to not talking to him for a year or perhaps you used to meet him in-person?
That might shape whether “grieving” is the right frame, or whether there’s still a door open somewhere.

I mean talking to him. I doubt we’ll ever talk again tho coz i think hes moved on already

U mentioned online friend that u haven seen in a year… is he local or overseas friend? Ive quite many online friends from my gaming circle

hes from the uk..idrk if alot of people form rlly emotional bonds w their online friends tbh

mm this kind of loss can feel especially lonely when the other person seems to have moved on and you are still here carrying it. It being online doesn’t make it any less real, some connections just leave a bigger mark than others, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Given what you shared, grieving a friendship like this is completely valid. You don’t need a “good enough” reason to feel the loss of someone who mattered to you.

what do i do now? coz its been 2 yrs nd i havent made progress

mm two years is a long time to carry this and it is understandable that you are feeling stuck.

Perhaps one thing worth sitting with is whether you have actually given yourself permission to grieve this properly, or whether part of you has been dismissing it because it was “just” an online friendship. Being able to acknowledge the loss in the first place is a important step.

It might help to let yourself feel it without judgment as this is also part of processing them. Some ways that we can do this could be writing about what he meant to you, or gradually invest in other connections. Investing in other connection is not to replace him, but because isolation tends to make grief heavier.

Given that it has been going on for two years, it might also be worth to consider speaking to a counsellor who can support you. Not because anything is wrong with you, but because grief can get tangled up with other things in life and having support to unpack that can make a real difference.
