My Psychiatrist ditched me without me knowing.

Panic panic panic.

My doc just ditched without me knowing. I only know it when i logged in the check the app.

Nooo… how that happens. As much as hated him, and he has being pretty unhelpful. But he is the best Dr i know of for 23 yrs. And he is the only Dr that is able to journey with me for over 10 yrs. While most of them got fired by me after just 1 consult and most just survive 3 months max. He is the only psychiatrist I know that actually still remember what he learned in school, and he is pretty well verse in general medicine so much so he prescribed better medicine than a doc specialising in neurology.

Although he change a lot over the yrs and dont seems to be as passionate about his work than he used to when i first saw him, i can never forget the moment he was angery that bloodbank rejected me as a blood donor because of my mental health issue and he keep help me to write memo to them until they finally give in and accept me as a blood donor on his 5th memo. This is one thing no doctors in IMH will even bother to do, since i made the request to 3 different docs there and the last one told me she can just discharge me so i can be a blood donor. I was really like WTF…

And he has been the only psychaitrist is know that will just tell me Just let him know all the meds i need and he will sign and prescribe them even when its no psy related. I wonder how many Psy doc has the guts to do that and trust their patient fully, knowing what is good for them.

As much i feel good about him leaving and going back to his home country to make a difference. Man…i feeled to ditched by him and i doubt there will be another doctor like him, surely not those local grads even though he is the one to teach them for the past few yrs. I really hate egos from local doctors. Sigh…what now?

Hello @user1446

Thank you for taking your time to write in to Let’s talk!
It must have been quite jarring for you to log in and find out like that, especially with no heads up at all. It is a rough way to discover something significant especially when this is someone who has been part of your life for over a decade.

I can see why there is a lot of mix feelings about this. You feel relief because he is doing something meaningful but also the gut punch feeling of being left without any warning. And having to worry about what comes next especially when you have such a hard time finding someone who actually gets you and works with you.

I am wondering, did the clinic give you any information about next steps, like whether or not he has handed over your case to someone or if there is a transition plan in place? From my knowledge, some practices do have handover. It might be something you can consider asking them because you deserve some form of proper transition.

And while I hear your frustrations about finding someone new, I don’t deny that it won’t be easy, the fact that you have found someone who worked well for you for over a decade does mean you know what good looks like. That could actually be something you can use when you are evaluating whoever comes next.

The sense of betrayal, the sense of being ditched, and the sense of uncertainty.
Especially for an institutional abuse victim, it’s pretty hard to digest.

I understand its time for him to move to the next chapter, but yet…he does it without seeing me one last time to let me know who took my case is shocking.

I always hate the stupid fact that they always say subsides patients cannot pick doctors. will screw them. They say until like we see a doctor, no need to pay like that. Even if we don’t have to pay for it, its still paid by the gov.

Does makes me wonder who else in the hospital can wear the hat of a prof. But no… wait…i think they assigned a MO to me. But i have no mood to babysit doctors. Can only hope that fella is not a bit only start making a big scene, especially nowadays, healthcare professionals can all police if their think they have been verbally abused. Again…who the hack have the time to verbal abuse them if they know their jobs and didnt make patients wait half a day away just to see doctors.

Be it whether it’s doctors or patients, all of us is human beings, so what doctors think they should feel more superior to their patients and make them wait for them, and yet we still have to pay to wait?

Does make me feel very curious which MO is thought to be able to fit into the hat of a Prof.
