Hi, not my first time posting here. I would first like to say that this post is written on a not so serious note(lighthearted note?). I would like to hear some opinions and advice to my small situation.
So basically, I don’t have a proper study table to do work and homework on during his tuition. If I use his table during that time, later he would scold me for making a mess, and after his tuition, I have to move my stuff out to the dining room again…
It has been a hassle as every time when my family wants to use the dining table to eat on , I would have to stop work and clean up the table for them to use. (It feels like I’m moving houses every 1-2 hours)
This is because there is lack of space in my house to give me my own work table. On the other hand, my brother has his own table in his own room but the room is not big enough to fit a bigger table for two people to use.
I say this because he chooses Saturdays to have tuition for an hour plus which isn’t a big deal. But it feels a bit unfair… and so I have no table to do my work on! And if you get me, going to school from monday to friday is already tiring enough! So I don’t like going to the library to do my work as an alternative. Please do not say I’m selfish and what not, I really tried to comprehend to my family member’s schedules but I can’t really keep up with it anymore!
would you please suggest some alternatives? thank you…
Anyways, if you read until here, thank you for reading my rant about my small situation it’s not serious but I need suggestions. Once again, thank you!
First of all, it’s okay to just rant about lighthearted issues. Sometimes we just need to let out some knots in our hearts to relieve ourselves, hehe.
For your problem, you say that you don’t have enough space to fit two tables for two people. I wonder if you can use a folding table and sit on your bed or on the floor to study (as this has been what I do at home because I do not want to have a big table.) If possible, maybe you can also share some space on your brother’s table to study.
Honestly, this is an amazing idea! I might get a portable laptop standing table instead though because my bed would get dirty from the eraser dust I use. Thank you so so much for the suggestion!
hello @user1813 I hear you and thanks for sharing with us. It’s not an unimportant issue if it matters to you! The portable table solution is a good one I think I had a few portable / foldable tables in my home (I used one as my work table). One suggestion I have is to make sure that you check for stability. The one I used previously was small and easily kept/movable but it was a little shaky esp when I typed on my laptop so it wasn’t conducive in the long term but I’m sure it would be good if it was more solid/stable. Good luck finding the right one!
Hi firstly its okay to rant! Your situation does sound tough and having to move is really disruptive to studying hmm what I can think of is maybe get those little portable tables that you could use and store whenever you need to! If not something else I can think of at the moment might be those bed tables (though not the most ideal place to study) but I think it would still be a writing space.
Other than that, maybe having your brother to take turns using the dining table might help so you both get to share the table to use without disrupting each other too much. Sorry I don’t have a lot of great ideas but I hope this gives you some inspiration.
Hello @user1813,
It is okay to share with us your porblems, no problem is too small! As a studenf myself, I understand that having a proper desk is important. I love going to the library to study, so perhaps you can consider studying in the library?
hey there, I actually have been in your situation before with lack of living space, if possible, maybe you could get a small table in your room?
I used to have a small table similar to those Japanese floor tables near the door of my room. Then, everyday after school I would come home and put my school bag right next to the table so that after I’ve changed and rested, I could start my work with all my school work right beside me. It also definitely helped me remember to bring my schoolwork because after I finished my work I could just put the paper straight into my bag.
I had a low table and seat cushion to do my work on the floor, it was pretty fun to have my notes laid out around me on the floor to reference, it’s also helps me not feel like I’ve been sitting on a chair the whole day.
Hope you’ll be able to find something that works for you! I’m wishing you all the best!
