Admire a guy for a long time

I am addicted to keep looking at a guy I admire. Tried to organise group outings, he turned up initially… however, he avoided nowadays… asked him out twice… he went out first time and rejected at the second time… he looks really disterested in me…

And I am trying to move on and avoid looking at his ig… sometimes i can sometimes i cannot… it is a struggle… how can i not look at his ig anymore?

Dear @JoJohoxy

Firstly, I want to acknowledge your courage to express what you are going through. I also admire your sensitivity and awareness that many others shy away from revealing. I remembered my first experience and I was fixated on someone I like alot, and it was really challenging to break free from that cycle. So your feelings are valid, and recognizing them is a strong first step. The hurt can be a struggle and really tough to deal with these feelings, especially when you’re trying to move on but keep getting pulled back in.

So what did I do? I’ve found that creating some distance from the person you’re fixated on can be really helpful. This could mean unfollowing or muting their account on social media. I know it can be hard, but sometimes taking that step can prevent us from constantly being reminded of them and give us the space we need distract and defuse our feelings. Have you tried this approach before?

Another approach may be to redirect your focus to other activities and interests. Engaging in hobbies, spending time with friends, and doing things that you enjoy can help shift your attention away from this person. Finding new ways to occupy your time can be a powerful way to break the cycle of obsession. What activities do you enjoy that you could dive into more?

It might also help to set specific goals for yourself, such as limiting the amount of time you spend on social media each day. You could gradually reduce this time to make the process less overwhelming. For example, start by setting a timer for 15 minutes and gradually decrease it. How do you feel about setting some goals like this?

If you’re finding it really difficult to manage these feelings on your own, talking to a therapist can be beneficial. They can provide you with strategies and support tailored to your situation, helping you to work through your emotions and develop healthier habits.

Remember, it’s important to be kind to yourself during this process. Moving on takes time, and it’s okay to have setbacks. The important thing is that you’re trying, and seeking help is a big step in the right direction.

Take care of yourself, and if you ever need to talk more about this, we are here for you.

Thanks for sharing, @JoJohoxy. What is it that you like about him?

Thanks for sharing and offering advice to overcome. Will mute his stories which I am addicted to… Will set goals to reduce social media time, spend time with family/frens and do activities that I enjoy

He is quite good looking, has some similar interests as me and seems mature…
