Is it normal to grief

Is been more than 6 months since grandma passed on.

I still miss her, i still get offended when people say things like i dont understand why are u so close to her. She is dead move on.. But the fact is i had been looking after her for 10 years.

Hi @inspiredbearcub3149,

Ten years of caring for someone creates a bond that most people simply can’t understand unless they’ve lived it themselves. You weren’t just her grandchild, you were her caregiver and daily companion, someone whose life was deeply intertwined with hers. That kind of loss doesn’t follow a six-month timeline, and anyone suggesting you should just “move on” hasn’t experienced what you have.

It makes complete sense that those comments sting. There’s something particularly painful about grief being minimised by the very people around you, when what you really need is for someone to just acknowledge how much she meant to you.

How have you been coping so far with all that you’re feeling now?

Hey @inspiredbearcub3149 :waving_hand:

Firstly, I want to assure you that you can take as much time as you need to grieve. We all have our own ways of processing/coping with things and it makes sense why your grandma’s passing feels especially tough since you were so close to her and spent 10 years by her side. There’s this quote I really like from a show I’ve watched and I hope it makes sense to you as well: “grief is not a weapon. grief is grief. it’s a hole that can never be filled but eventually it will shrink enough so that you won’t fall in every time you step on it”. Take all the time you need to grieve and also be kind to yourself throughout this process! :hugs:
