Is it normal to have waves of emotional exhaustion that come & go?

I’m not sure how to phrase this but there has been very dark emotional spirals that recurred on and off since young. No active self harming thoughts, just a sense of tiredness and increased need for sleep despite sleeping enough, it feels like the day passes without me knowing and I’m on autopilot mode. I’m not sure what are the triggers, could it be stress? At this point stress might as well be the answer for everything. I thought I had grown out of it but the tendency still haunts me, though I’ve gotten better at identifying the onset and managed it better these days. Is this just hypersensitivity or is it a valid experience?

you may be suffering from some mild depression. eating dark chocolates might help. it is too stressful to even think rn, breathing gets hard. your feelings are defo valid.

Hey @user7061 ,

It sounded like the tiredness is driving the extra sleep, and the sense of going on autopilot are like your system is going into a low-power mode because your body is asking to rest.

Quick question, when these dark emotional spirals start, how long has it been actively spiralling? Just letting you know that many people who grow up managing their emotions quietly end up coping in ways that feel automatic. It could simply mean your system is still using a familiar way to protect you.

That said, you mentioned “stress might as well be the answer for everything”, do you mind sharing what would the stress be? Have you had the chance to speak to your family doctor on coping with it? If the heaviness ever becomes harder to manage or starts affecting your functioning, do call or reach out for support, SOS 1767 or Mindline 1771 as there are counsellors to assist you to help you understand better. Holpe to hear you.

hello there, thanks for sharing. It may be a hectic time for you and that is signs of exhaustion. You can consider engaging in your hobbies or going on walks in parks to recollect your thoughts and rest. I believe rest can help you feel more recharged  rooting for you OP!
