Psy Medications

I’ve just started on Quetiapine and Fluvoxamine. Maybe I’ve not taken these medications before, I feel so lethargic and gloomy all day until evening time where I feel better.

hey @user5473, that sounds tough :((. starting new meds can def mess with your energy and mood, particularly in the beginning when your body is still adjusting. in fact, low mood and drowsiness during the day are common side effects of both quetiapine and fluvoxamine.

nevertheless, i’ll encourage you to let your doctor/psychiatrist know about these symptoms, esp if they’re unmanageable or do not go away. your doctor can then figure out whether it’s a passing side effect, a dosage issue, or sth else.

btw, i’m proud of you for reaching out and seeking help :light_blue_heart:. be gentle with yourself while things settle, and take care, okay? i hope things start getting better for you soon :dizzy:

Hi @user5473,

I am not in a position to describe the effects of your new meds (Quetiapine and Fluvoxamine)… however, since you feel that your body is heavy, slow, even low in mood, and it’s not just in your head. Please reach out to your doctor and clarify your condition soonest.

You have done well by noticing evenings are better, it seems you are tracking your own rhythms carefully. That kind of awareness is important. You will struggle to settle as your body is adjusting to the medication, but keeping a simple note of what time the lethargy or gloom hits, and how intense, could really help when you talk to your doctor.

For now, it may help to remind yourself… if the gloom deepens into thoughts of giving up or harming yourself, that’s the time to reach out straight away – you can call SOS at 1-767 or 1771 to chat with someone right away.

It makes sense you’re unsure right now… but please reach out to your doctor and clarify your condition soonest.

hi @user5473 ,

starting new medications isn’t easy :(( sometimes it really takes some time to adjust… have you told your doctor about the effects you’re experiencing? maybe they can advise you on the common side effects and how to cope with them or adjust your medications to be more helpful for you

is there anything that has helped your lethargy and mood a little so far?

Hi @user5473

Am sharing this based on personal experience… back then when I first started on medication, it took about 2 weeks to a month before I really felt any positive effects…

Am unsure if your doctor or the pharmacist has gone through the potential side effects you might experience.. otherwise you could also look it up on reputable sources such as Healthhub

Like the others have mentioned, would encourage you to speak to your doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and how it has been bothering you so that they can better titrate your medications.

Continue to take your medication, it will take time to see the effects, usually if you’re taking psych meds for the 1st time, you’ll be put on a starting dose rather than therapeutic dose… meds is really trial and error to see what works and what doesn’t, ngl it can be very frustrating so do be patient, gentle and kind towards yourself… and continue to be in communication with your psychiatrist.

Wishing you the best in this journey. Take care!
